Dr. Jonathan Dean

I began my adulthood with joining the U.S. Army in 1983 where I was assigned to the 82nd airborne division. After three years in the army, I purchased the business, Dean’s North Fork Marina, where I had worked during my high school years. Several years later, I became involved in other entrepreneurial enterprises. This year, I am starting my 14th year in public education. I first began teaching in the Lake Isabella area where I was a history and language arts teacher. I moved to Bakersfield, Ca. and taught with the Panama Buena Vista School District for two years before becoming a vice principal. The past five years with the Panama-Buena Vista School District, I was the principal of Fred L. Thompson Jr. High. Last year, through the dedication and commitment of the Thompson staff, Fred L. Thompson was identified as the first and only A.V.I.D. National Demonstration School for the entire county of Kern. This year, I am excited to be serving as the Executive Director of O'Farrell Community school.

I have a B.A. in Political Science from California State University of Bakersfield. I also earned my teaching credential at C.S.U.B. I have a Masters degree in Educational Management and an Administrative Credential, both received from the University of La Verne, California. I have recently obtained my Doctorate of Education Degree in Teacher Leadership from Walden University, Maryland. I am married and have two wonderful children. My wife Tera is a dental hygienist here in San Diego County. My eldest daughter, Brittany, is attending her third year of college. My youngest daughter, Riley, is entering the first grade. I enjoy boating, scuba, exercise, and spending time with my family. We are all very happy to be here in San Diego, especially here at O’Farrell Community School.
