Progressive Discipline Policy
Students are expected to be in class on time.  Students will avoid behaviors that are disruptive, irresponsible, and unsafe.  O'Farrell follows district discipline and zero tolerance policies, as well as its own progressive discipline policy:
  1. Verbal Warning
  2. Consequence in Classroom
  3. Phone Call to Parent/Guardian
  4. Detention and Phone Call Home
  5. Friday Night or Saturday School and Phone Call Home
  6. Parent Conference and In-School Suspension or Alternative Suspension
  7. Formal Suspension
Student actions deemed serious enough may at any point skip to the suspension level, if required.

Inappropriate Items
O'Farrell students are committed to making a great life for themselves by remaining focused on their studies during the school day.  Students are not permitted to have items at school that distract from this goal.  The list of inappropriate items include:
  • skateboards, scooters
  • walkman, iPods
  • toys or games
  • firecrackers
  • sports equipment
  • any items of value
  • weapons
  • excess cash
  • other items as determined by a school official
Cell phones are allowed on campus, but must be turned off during school hours.  They cannot be on silent or vibrate.  Parents can get a hold of students by calling the school.  Students found using a cell phone during school hours will have their phone confiscated.  Students are not allowed to take pictures or record in the classroom without the permission of the teacher.  Any student who violates this will receive a school consequence.  In addition, this is a misdemeanor.  Parents may be required to come pick up any confiscated inappropriate item.

Inappropriate Behaviors and Consequences
The Falcon Way is to be followed at all times.  Any instance of inappropriate student behavior will be reported to the homebase teacher.  The homebase teacher may consult with students, parents, and family teachers to select appropriate consequences and intervention.  Detention, parent shadowing, Saturday school, and suspension are possible consequences.

Safety
Only students who ride the school bus are to be dropped off and picked up in the school parking lot.  All other students are to be dropped off and picked up on 61st Street or Skyline Drive.  Students walking to and from school should use the crosswalks and obey traffic signals.

Dance Policy
School dance are held four times throughout the year.  Students will be eligible to attend if they have not been suspended during the 6 weeks prior to the dance.  Dance ticket sales will take place during lunch the week of the dance.  All discipline and dress code rules are in effect.  Staff members and parent chaperones have full authority to admit, refuse, or dismiss any student from the dance.

Sexual Harassment
Sexual harassment can be such actions as:  unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors (verbal or visual), or physical conduct of a sexual nature by someone from or within the educational setting. San Diego Unified School District is committed to eliminating such acts from the schools.  The district prohibits any conduct have a negative impact on the student's academic performance as well as any behavior creating an intimidating, hostile, or offensive educational environment.  It is important to report any act of sexual harassment to the homebase teacher.
